MAY AT VILLA TAVERNACCIA GOES BETWEEN GIRO D’ITALIA, MILLE MIGLIA AND LEONARDO DA VINCI
Italy’s premier cycling race, the Giro d’Italia 2019 will pass this year from Ginestra Fiorentina, only 8 km from from Villa Tavernaccia. This stage will finish in Fucecchio (Sunday 12 May) and start again from Vinci (Monday, May 13) in honor of the 500th anniversary of the death of the ‘genius’ Leonardo.
The “Mille Miglia” is an open-road, motorsport endurance race, which took place in Italy from 1927 to 1957.
Since 1977 the MM has been reborn as regularity race for classic and vintage cars.
The protagonists of the 2019 Mille Miglia will be 430 exceptional vehicles, testifying to the history of design and cars.
Next year’s edition will start on May 15th from Brescia , will cross the heart of Italy ,get to Rome and back to Brescia on the 18th. And guess what, it will pass by Vinci on the 17th, Leonardo’s birth town, only 25 minutes driving from Villa Tavernaccia.
The Museo Leonardiano in the artist’s birthplace of Vinci, in Tuscany, is planning a show (April-June 2019) linking his work to the local landscape. This will include Leonardo’s earliest surviving drawing (on loan from the Uffizi), depicting the mountains of Montalbano. Dating from 1473, when the artist was 21, it is often regarded as Europe’s earliest landscape drawing.
